Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happeness and to that freedom for all.
This dynamic, vinyasa-based Hatha Yoga method was developed by Sharon Gannon and David Life in 1986. It includes traditional yoga practices which are perfectly aligned with the urban lifestyle in the West without losing sight of the ancient goal of the yoga practice, liberation.
The name Jivamukti comes from the Sanskrit word jivanmukta which translated means „liberated while living“. As a path to enlightment through compassion for all living beings the Jivamukti method incorporates five tenets, which build the basis of each class:
ahimsa (nonviolence), bhakti (devotion to God), nada (deep listening and sound), dhyana (meditation) and shastra (study of the ancient scriptures).
Every class is composed of a combination of dynamic vinyasa sequences, meditation, breathing exercises, music, chanting and hands-on assists as tools that help us to experience the state of yoga, oneness with everything around us. In the state of yoga the mind is calm and the thought processes have ceased.
